Wireless Security Information
Security of communications has been a priority of KCCoyote. All customer equipment is behind a stateful firewall (stateful packet inspection - SPI). In addition, our radios use network address translation (NAT) to give customers a "private" IP address so that they cannot be attacked from the Internet.
We also encourage all customers to use AntiVirus software to protect their data from malicious websites or errant e-mails.
On the wireless security side, our radios use Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) to make the transmissions secure. Our next generations of radios will also support Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and IEEE 802.11i (WPA2).
For those concerned with physical security, we would pose one question: Which is more conspicuous - a two story boom truck with a radio receiver on the top, or someone attaching telephone equipment to the side of your house? Most telephone and cable companies have the high speed lines coming out of the side of most homes, which can easily be tapped by someone at most hours of the day. Our customer antennas sit on your roof, or in your attic, and the signal can only be intercepted by getting in between the direction your antenna is pointing and our towers.
Information
Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) have been trying to bring high-speed wireless to the rural masses for many years. Many of these WISPs were just your average dialup service providers who try to bring in high-speed to meet customer demand of growing high-speed alternatives. KC Coyote wants to bring in the bandwidth with high customer service and low cost.
Our company has been setting up basic point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless networks for almost as long as this type of wireless technologies have been around. In the past, retransmitting high speed connections using wireless networks used to be cost prohibitive for residential service and small businesses. But now, the equipment and antennas that form the basis for this technology are within the grasp of most consumers.
Current Phase: Deployment to Zone 1 Residential and Commercial Customers
Our Zone 1 customers are those within 2 miles of our tower locations in Trimble and Smithville. These customers receive the wireless "modem" to connect to our towers. And at around 7"x6"x2" this integrated unit is almost a third of the size of an obtrusive satellite dish. The weatherproof design means that only one cable has to run inside the house from the Near Line of Site (NLoS) antennae. NLoS means that weather will not bring on the connection problems that satellite users run into. This outdoor cable connects to a power adapter inside the house which then plugs into your computer or network router / firewall. Up to three computers in a home network can comfortably connect at speeds up to 512 Kbps.
Commercial Customers receive our high powered units with a 1'x1' directional panel antennae. These can withstand the daily traffic of a full office of computers with speeds reaching 768 Kbps for upstream and downstream traffic.
For those who have questions on whether or not they can receive our service - look up! If you can see any of these locations from your home or office, let us know!
